Why Pilates for rehab?
Rehabilitation is the process of restoring someone to optimal health, normal life, and a functional state. It primarily refers to structured treatment programs designed to help individuals recover from pain, injury, or a limited lifestyle.
Clinical Pilates is a highly individualised form of physical rehabilitation, usually referred by your Physiotherapist, Osteopath, Chiropractor, or GP, although this is not necessary to start your journey. Unlike generic group fitness classes, it targets specific injuries, movement limitations, muscle imbalances, and strength and mobility concerns. Using a combination of matwork, weight training and specialised spring-loaded equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac and Wunda Chair to safely and effectively restore strength and pain-free movement.
Your Journey: The Stages of Rehabilitation
No two people recover the same way. Your program is tailored to where you are right now, and progresses as your body becomes stronger, more confident, and ready for the next challenge.
Acute Injury & Post-Surgical Recovery
When you're in pain or recovering from surgery, the priority is to protect healing tissues while keeping your body moving.
We'll use gentle, supported movement to reduce pain, maintain muscle activation and encourage healthy healing without overloading the injured area. The reformer allows us to carefully control resistance, helping you move safely while rebuilding confidence from the very beginning.
Building Control & Confidence
As symptoms settle, we focus on reconnecting your brain and body.
This stage is all about improving body awareness, balance, coordination, and muscle control. You'll learn how to move more efficiently, retrain muscles that may have become weak or inhibited, and build confidence in movements that may have previously felt uncomfortable or unsafe.
Strength & Resilience
Once your body is ready, we gradually increase the challenge.
Using progressive resistance, heavier springs and external loads such as weights, we'll help rebuild strength, improve mobility and increase your capacity to move well. Exercises become more integrated, teaching your body to work as a whole rather than relying on isolated muscles.
Returning to Life, Work & Sport
Rehabilitation doesn't stop when the pain does.
The final stage prepares you for the movements that matter most to you—whether that's lifting your kids, gardening, returning to the gym, running, surfing or competing in sport.
By progressively introducing more dynamic, functional and goal-specific movements, we help you return to the activities you love with greater strength, confidence and resilience than before.
